Anushavan Zakaryan

Was born on January 1, 1954, in the village of Paraka located in Ordubad region of the Nakhijevan Soviet Autonomous Republic. In 1961 he entered and in 1971 left Yerevan Secondary school №19 named after N. K. Krupskaya (now Nikol Aghbalyan). Subseqeuntly, he studied at the Faculty of Philology of the Armenian State Pedagogical Institute after Kh. Abovyan. Before graduating from the Institute, he taught at the Nor Artagers village school in Hoktemberyan region. In 1975-1976 he served in the army as an ordinary soldier in the Far East – in Obluchiye town of Khabarovsk region. In 1977-1980 he worked as an editor at the printing house of the Academy of Sciences of Armenia. In 1980-1993 he was the Executive Secretary of the AS journal “Herald of Social Sciences”. In 1989-1990 he also held the position of the Executive Secretary of “Goyamart” weekly of “Armenia” nongovernmental organization. In October 1993, he left his job for the position of the Head of Publishing Department of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Armenia. From October 1995, he has headed various structural subdivisions of the National Assembly staff; he was the Deputy Head of the Protocol-publishing Department, the Head of the Translation and Publishing Subdivision, the Head of the Office, the Deputy Head of the Secretariat. From February 1998 he was the Executive Director of the newly established “Official Bulletin” SCJSC of the RA Government staff. Since March 2000, he has been the Head of the NA Staff Publishing Department. In 1999 he assumed the position of the Executive Secretary of the “Historical-Philological Journal”, since 2003 also as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal. From June 2018 he is the Editor-in-Chief of the “Historical-Philological Journal”. In 1985 he defended his dissertation titled “Russian Writers in Transcaucasia and Armenian Literary Life” for the degree of Candidate of Sciences and in 2005 he defended his dissertation titled “Russian Literati and Armenian Reality (the 10s of the 20th Century)” for Doctor of Sciences. A. Zakaryan’s scientific studies are summarized in 19 monographs and collections, about 240 articles, publications, reviews. They include a wide range of Armenian-Russian literary and historical-cultural relations, the Armenian reality of the early twentieth century, the elucidation of less studied main issues of the Armenian Question and the Armenian Genocide. In 1989-2003, 2009-2012 he worked as a lecturer at several universities (Vanadzor Pedagogical University after Hovh. Tumanyan, Zoo Veterinary-Animal-Breeding Institute, “Galik”, “Gladzor” institutes). For many years, A. Zakaryan has been a member of the specialized council with a RA MES HQC 10.01.03 specialization of “Russian literature” (also a member of the specialized council with a 10.01.07 specialization of “Foreign literature”) adjacent to the NAS RA Institute of Literature after M. Abeghian and at real time acting under YSU. He has been for numerous times an opponent of dissertations for the degrees of candidate or doctor of sciences aas well as presented reports at international and republican conferences. For his significant contribution to the NAS RA system, in 2013 he was awarded with a “Certificate of Merit” by the NAS RA President. From 1986 he was firstly a member of the USSR Union of Journalists, subsequently the Union of Journalists of Armenia. A. Zakaryan has a class rank of 1st Class Advisor to the State Service of the Republic of Armenia. A. Zakaryan is married, he has two daughters, a son and five grandchildren. Doctor of Philological Sciences, Editor-in-Chief of the “Historical and Philological Journal” of NAS RA, Senior Researcher of the Department of Art of the Armenian Diaspora and International Relations of the Institute of Arts of NAS RA. Scientific interests: issues of the first quarter of the Armenian reality of the XX century, the Armenian Question and the Armenian Genocide, Armenian-Russian historical, literary and cultural ties. He is the author of 23 monographs and collections and over 250 articles and publications
