Long-term scientific and research activity of the distinguished historian and preeminent party and government leader academician Ashot Ionnisyan (1887-1972), can be divided into two stages: pre-Soviet and Soviet. One of the important areas of his historical and scientific researches was the coverage of centuries old liberation struggle of the Armenian people that is summarized in his valuable monographs. For obvious reasons, the Soviet Armenian historiography gave an exaggerated assessment to the Russian orientation of the Armenian people, such as fateful, critical, turning point, etc. From the point of view of historical science, A. Ioannisyan's opinion and assessment put forward in his works of the pre-Soviet period appear to be more balanced and reasonable, particularly, on the issues of the Russian orientation of the Armenian people in connecttion with the activities of Israel Ori (1659-1711).

In the dialogues of the epic “The Daredevils of Sassoun”, the syntax (subject-expressing speech, verb-predicate-indirect object) and the content of the author's speech mostly remain the same. This is due to the fact that the above mentioned components do not always have a verbal expression which, however, as a rule, is implied. In numerous versions of the epic, most often the author’s speech is found only with a predicate expressed mainly with a verb ասել “to say”, which, as a result of extension of the lexical meaning, is used not only in the narrative but also in the combination with direct speech with different semantic shades.

The Western Armenian satirical writers have occupied a worthy niche in Armenian literature playing an undeniable role in its development. However, many of them, despite their merits, remain almost unknown to the Armenian reader and unjustly forgotten. One of them is Yervand Tolayan (1883‒1937), a writer, editor and actor, who gained fame in the Armenian cultural life of Constantinople at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1910, his main work, the satirical novel "In the Footsteps of the Ideal" was published; the novel presented the life and customs of the Armenians of Constantinople, particularly of the district Bera, in a bright satirical subtext.
