    At the turn of the fourth and fifth centuries, confronted with emerging threats, Armenian political thought formed a nationwide agenda for preserving the national statehood and spiritual authority recognizing the complete and final spread of Christianity and its transformation into the faith and core of Armenian identity as the means of solving this agenda. Historians of the fifth century portray the spread of Christianity in Armenia as a deeply disconsolate situation, explaining it by the lack of the Armenian translation of the Bible. In reality, there were far more serious obstacles that historians do not mention.

    During 2012–2018, the RA authorities, as a result of coordinated work with the Ministry of Diaspora (hereinafter: MD) and various international, Diaspora and local organizations, took care of and ensured the summer vacation of Armenian children who stayed in Armenia, as well as those who remained in Syria and experienced all the bitterness of war and the horrors of military clashes, in their native camps and rest homes, organized educational, rehabilitation and healing, New Year’s, cultural, festive, sports and other events, as well as organized excursions to the sights of Armenia and other programs.

    A.-J. Saint-Martin (1791–1832) is the founder of not only French but also European scientific Armenian studies. The two volumes of the monumental work “Mémoires historiques et géographiques sur l’Arménie”, published in 1818 and 1819, compelled European Orientalists to turn their attention to Armenia – to the rich literature and history of the country that was the first in the East to adopt Christianity at the state level. Knowledge of the history and literature of Armenia presented a universal value.

    The image of the Armenian ruler (king) as an opponent of the Turks has been repeatedly recorded in the Turkic epic tradition. One such example is the image of Tekfur or Tekfur Khan, i.e. the king of Cilician Armenia, in the work “Oghuz-nameh” by the Iranian author Rashid al-Din Fadlullah of the XIII–XIV centuries. The article presents references to Tekfur found in that work and an examination of the original forms. The fact that the historical prototype of the image of Tekfur in the “Oghuz-nameh” is the king of Cilician Armenia is confirmed by more detailed references to Tekfur in another work of the historian – “Tārīkh-i Afranj” (“History of the Franks”), as well as in the works of other Muslim authors.

    The focus of the founder of the Mkhitarist Congregation, Mkhitar Sebastatsi (1676–1749) and his disciples was the Armenian language, and it was exactly in this field of study that they achieved unprecedented success. It is well known that both prominent Armenologists of the time and Sebastatsi himself were primarily interested in Grabar (Classical Armenian), whereas Ashkharhabar (Modern Armenian) remained largely outside the scope of their attention. Nevertheless, Sebastatsi authored the first grammar of the emerging Western Armenian language, in which he advocated for its purification and standardization, simultaneously calling for the elimination of Latinisms from Grabar.

    Arsen Aytinian (1825–1902), a prominent representative of European Armenian studies, a theorist of linguistics and a practical researcher of the history of the Armenian language. He left an indelible mark on the advancement of Armenian studies in the field of linguistics and philology in general. The activity of the Vienna Mekhitarist Congregation in the second half of the 19th century is fully connected with his name. He was an authority in the field of Armenian language in the context of general and theoretical linguistics of his time - a field that has broadly illuminated the development of Armenian studies from the very beginning and to this day.

    The numerous scientific works by Hrachya Acharyan (1876-1953) cover all domains of the study of the Armenian language. He is the founder of such scientific disciplines as the history of the Armenian language, Armenian dialectology, and experimental phonetics of Armenian language. Hr. Acharyan’s monumental contributions to Armenian lexicography, etymology of the Armenian language, the study of Armenian personal names, historical and comparative grammar of the Armenian language, typological and contrastive research, and many other fields are of fundamental importance to Armenian studies. The pedagogical legacy of the eminent Armenologist is immense.

    The borrowed words in the Karabakh dialect, when compared to their meanings in Russian, may have either retained their original meaning or undergone various semantic changes. One of the manifestations of semantic changes is the use of these borrowed words in phraseological units. The phraseological units are mainly composed of borrowed subordinate components and Armenian dominant components. Phraseological units with communicative meaning – that is, those functioning as a sentence – are relatively few; they mainly have a simple structure; one-member phraseological units are also encountered.

    In the history of Armenian music, certain names endure forever. One of them is the Iranian-Armenian composer, pedagogue, and musical-public figure Nikol Galanderyan (1881–1944). His opera “Parvana”, whose libretto is written to Hovhannes Tumanyan’s legend of the same name, is a unique fusion of folk mysticism. Oriental lyricism and traditions of European classical opera. Galanderyan created the said opera in a historically complicated period (the first half of the XX century), while living and creating in Tehran. “Parvana” is the first and, perhaps, for now the only attempt to bring to the opera stage Tumanyan’s profound national, almost mystical text.

The great humanist believed it essential to acquaint the Russian society with the centuries-old history of the Armenian people, with its rich cultural heritage. The scientist's research in these fields is a valuable contribution to the development of Armenian studies in Russia.

    Since the Paleolithic, all the rituals comprising funerary rite were aimed at a single purpose – overcoming the death. The head of deceased was viewed as a valid replacement of the whole being. It was perceived as a container, where the vital energy was concentrated. Therefore, the head needed protection, which was provided by placing near the head ritual items made of flint, obsidian or metal, modelling the head in plaster, placing the head in a clay vessel or on a stone, etc.

    In the letter of 1921, addressed to the communists of the Caucasus, the Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR, Vladimir Lenin formulated an idea of importance of irrigation, which became a key starting point for the social and economic development of the region. The humanitarian mission of the Norwegian polar explorer and public figure Fridtjof Nansen in Armenia, directly related to irrigation projects, proved the relevance of Lenin's ideas at the international level. During the same period, archaeological research on ancient irrigation systems and related monuments called "vishap" were intensified resulting in a scientific discourse according to which irrigation in ancient times conditioned the emergence of statehood.

    The outstanding Soviet statesman, party and military figure, publicist, and literary scholar Alexander Astvatsaturovich (Fyodorovich) Myasnikyan (pseudonym – Al. Martuni, 1886-1925) is one of the most prominent figures in the modern history of the Armenian people. His life and multifaceted activities were closely connected with the struggle for freedom and the national revival of the Armenian people. The Armenian-Russian environment of Nakhichevan-on-Don (now part of the Rostov region), education in parish and diocesan schools (seminaries), and later at the Moscow Lazarev Institute contributed to the formation of Myasnikyan’s patriotic and national worldview.

    The letter, dated 925, from Patriarch Nicholas Mystikos of Constantinople (901–907, 912–925) to the Armenian King Ashot Erkat (914–929) contains important information about Armenian-Byzantine ecclesiastical and political relations. After the death of the Armenian Catholicos Hovhannes Draskhanakertsi (898–925), Ashot Erkat sent envoys to Byzantium in 925, offering to accept a new candidate for the post of Armenian Catholicos, ordain him, and send him back to Armenia. Thus, Ashot Erkat tried to secure the support of Byzantium.

    Nicholas Adontz (1871–1942) was an internationally renowned Byzantinist and Armenologist. He received a brilliant education at the Tatev Monastery, the Gevorkian Seminary in Etchmiadzin, in Tiflis, and at St. Petersburg University from which he graduated with a gold medal. From 1899 to 1901, thanks to the financial support of Alexander Man-tashyants, N. Adontz completed internship in London, Paris, Munich, Strasbourg, Venice, and at the University of Vienna, working in various matenadarans (manuscript repositories) and libraries. He had the honor of attending lectures by such eminent scholars as Karl Krumbacher, Antoine Meillet, Heinrich Hübschmann and others.

    Arshak Chopanian (1872–1954), a renowned Western Armenian writer, critic, publicist, translator, and figure of the national culture, beginning from the 1890s, repeatedly turned to the art of outstanding poet, playwright, translator, aesthetician, and educator Tovmas Terzian (1840–1909). Arshak Chopanian, in his articles, studied Tovmas Terzian’s biography, his personal qualities, teaching abilities, and art in whole. Analysis and assessment of T.     In the original collection of the epic “Sasna Tsrer” (“Daredevils of Sassoun”), since 1936 the geonym “Hadrbejan” or “Azerbaijan” is mentioned, which, during the period of the USSR, was associated with the neighboring Azerbaijani SSR. Our research suggests that the above is based only on two versions recorded from Moks’ (Western Armenia) narrators who traveled abroad in the late 19th century. The narrators meant the historical Aturpatakan (Atropatene), i.e. Iranian Azerbaijan. Moreover, in one version the geonym is mentioned instead of Gurjistan (Georgia). Meanwhile, in other versions of the epic, other geonyms appear in these episodes, primarily China and India.

    The renaming of oikonyms in the toponymic system of Artsakh is a multilayered process shaped by the interaction of historical, linguistic, cultural, and political factors. The renaming causes changes to the semantic content of an oikonym, the perception of its historical biography, and its symbolic value in public consciousness. The renaming is grounded on administrative-territorial restructuring, socio-economic relations and the ideological changes that reflect them, linguistic contacts, as well as requirements of written documentation and cartographic representation. In different historical periods, translation, phonetic transformation, calquing, reinterpretation, transliteration, literary normalization and standardization have served as mechanisms of oikonymic changes.

    The Western Armenian satirical writers have occupied a worthy niche in Armenian literature playing an undeniable role in its development. However, many of them, despite their merits, remain almost unknown to the Armenian reader and unjustly forgotten. One of them is Yervand Tolayan (1883‒1937), a writer, editor and actor, who gained fame in the Armenian cultural life of Constantinople at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1910, his main work, the satirical novel "In the Footsteps of the Ideal" was published; the novel presented the life and customs of the Armenians of Constantinople, particularly of the district Bera, in a bright satirical subtext.

    One of the primary and most important objectives in the study of Armenian sacred chant is the comprehensive study of the Ut‘jayn system (the Armenian Eight-mode), including a detailed analysis of the modal structures of sharakans, their scales, functional degrees, characteristic melodic patterns, and the features of intonational development. A comprehensive study of this issue implies its examination within the framework of each chant tradition of Armenian sacred music, followed by comparative analysis. Such large-scale studies in the field of modal analysis may have considerable significance for the interpretation of khaz notation and are directed toward the development of methodological principles for the modal system of Ut‘jayn in Armenian sacred chant, based on the established theoretical tradition of Armenian musicology.

    The French writer Arthur Adamov (Harutiun Adamyan, 1908–1970) was one of the founders of the Theatre of the Absurd, a major representative of postwar French theatre, an innovative playwright who created a new theatrical language. He was born in Kislovodsk (Russia) and lived in Europe from childhood, but despite this, Adamov was connected with the Armenian environment. As an ethnic Armenian, he was baptized in the Armenian Apostolic Church, his mother tongue was Armenian, his grandmother, Yekaterina Bahatur, was the first Armenian female playwright. In France, Adamov came into contact with the Armenians, showed his early literary attempts to the famous Armenian poet Avetik Isahakyan, and maintained contact with representatives of the Armenian intellectuals (Anna Budaghyan, Ruben Zaryan, Serovbe Mkhitaryan, Nubar Tildyan). The writer had a keen interest in events and realities of Armenian life.

    The newly discovered archaeological site is located on the right bank of the Araxes River, on the northwestern slopes of Mount Ararat. It was identified through the systematic analysis of satellite imagery. The site exhibits the characteristic features of “desert kites”, including a large enclosed area, external cells, and lateral protrusions. The dating remains unknown, as no field investigations have yet been conducted at the site. The structure provides new insights into the spatial distribution and morphological variability of “desert kites” in the region.

    The fall of the Arsacid kingdom of Greater Armenia in 428 AD is generally viewed in the context of geopolitical and internal conflicts of the second half of the IV – beginning of the V centuries AD. Meanwhile, the weakening of the Arsacid throne was a result of various factors. In particular, the climatic and environmental changes documented by various palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental studies indicate a comprehensive climatic phenomenon that occurred in the region around 350–450 AD, which has been named “Late Roman mega-drought” in special literature.
